Sydney houses are asking $1,148 a week and units $754 a week, according to SQM Research for the week ending 22 Sep 2026. Combined house and unit asking rents are up 5.2% on a year ago. Over the past year the monthly average house asking rent moved from $1,105 in Oct 25 to $1,138 in Sept 26.
Across 36 councils, the lowest average house asking rents are in Lithgow ($490), Blacktown ($641) and Campbelltown (NSW) ($660), and the highest in Woollahra ($3,011). See every Sydney council ranked.
